When the busyness of the funeral of a loved one is over, and friends and family have returned to their routines, we often begin to feel even more deeply the pain and the emptiness of our loss. The reality that a loved one is gone fo ever hits us hard, causing inconsolable grief, sadness, fatigue, and even mild or severe depression. These feelings are normal. The love and support of family and friends and the confidence of faith will ease this burden somewhat, but sometimes being and talking with others who are grieving can validate our feelings and help us get through the difficult days of grief more easily. If, after some weeks or months, you or someone you know is feeling needs help coping with a loss, you are invited to contact Sister Christine Sammons, O.P., in our Parish Social Ministry Office at 516-731-6074. Sister Christine can meet with the person and provide references to a bereavement group or other suitable grief counseling as needed. The Diocese of Rockville Centre sponsors a yearly bereavement convocation, and many parishes sponsor bereavement support groups. Please visit the diocesan bereavement ministry website at http://www.holyroodcemetery.org/bereavement.htm or call Kathleen Logan at 516-678-5800, ext. 236.
